Livin' it up unemployment style!!

Ok, so I've been an official Oswego graduate for about a month now, and I have been completely successful at avoiding any sort of real summer job so far. wahoo!! Instead I've been having a great time and going on lots of trips and stuff. Here's a rough re-cap of what I've been up to for the past month:

4 days subbing for kindergarteners/first graders <--closest i've come to a "job" so far...haha
3 trips to Oswego
1 trip to Maryland/DC to visit Robin!!
3 Bombers outings
1 Thatcher park picnic
3 Woodburnings made
2 books sold on
1 Wedding attended
1 Wedding asked to be in in August (congrats Sara!!!)
1 Leadership conference in Geneseo
1 new kitty aquired (well ok, it's technically Willow's kitty...but I still get to play with it!)
Various other outings in Albany, Oswego, and Maryland
and of course...
0 progress on unpacking/repacking

And surprisingly enough, my funds haven't completely run out yet!! So hopefully I can keep up this work avoidance thing until the end of July....we'll see... So the rest of this week looks pretty chill for me...but then Monday - Wednesday of next week I'm going camping and hiking in the adirondacks with Willow and her mom. wahoo!! I can't wait for that! Then Thursday I'm going to Brooklyn for a concert which should also be fun. It's crazy how fast this summer is flying by though... And it ends kind of early for me 'cause I'm moving into my new apartment in Connecticut on July 30th! Yay!! Apartment plans have been finalized so I'm living with Megan and Josh in a 3-bedroom apartment in the Pavillions in Manchester, CT. I'm really excited about that, but I'm also kind of sad to be leaving everyone I know...I still feel like I'm just going back to Oswego in the fall so it's gonna be weird when I don't.

Ah's still summer and fun-time for now so I'll keep this positive. Oh! I'm also going to Oswego again in early July with Ashley to visit the OL's during an orientation. This means I get to watch the song and dance for once and just hang out with everyone behind the scenes without having to work at all. hahaha - that'll be weird. (side note...the current ol's are on the "dreaded" ropes course at keuka college as we speak! tear...i miss orientation!)

I guess that's all for now. Time to get back to my busy life of doing nothing:-)

peace out.

Final Ode to Meghan...

So for those of you who have known me for a few years, definately know my roommate. Meghan L. Morris. And if you know Meghan, then you know how funny she is. The best part of Meghan's funnyness though, is that she hardly ever actually means to be funny. Back when we lived in the dorms, and when I actually had free time in college, I used to keep track of all the funny things Meg would say. Then I would dedicate my AIM profile to her on a weekly basis and list the funniest things she said all week.

So there's the background info. Skip ahead a couple years to tonight when I was packing up my house in order to move out this weekend. I found the collection of "meghanisms". So what better way to say farewell to my roomie and best friend of four years, then by posting allll her funny sayings here. (note: this will be much funnier if you actually know meghan and can picture her tone of voice and her facial expressions...)

"Is she doing this without me??" --meg talking to her pilates tape that she pressed 'play' on, and then got distracted

"That looks good" --me
"Who's Alex Good?" --meg

I shouldn't even be updating this right now...I should just be sleeping. But I'm still waiting for Willow to call for a ride home, so I guess this'll keep me awake just a bit longer... Anyway, this past weekend was another very eventful weekend. On Friday, Willow's Mom and I made a last minute decision to drive to Potsdam for the day to see the last 2 softball games we'd be able to see. And I'm SO glad we did. Willow hit a homerun that I was finally there to see!! And both her parents were there too, so that was awesome. The nukes played great in general and they beat Potsdam in both games! So then after the game I went to a great mexican restaurant in town with Willow's mom. Damn did they have good margaritas:-)

So it was a little crazy to go to Potsdam for the day because we didn't get back until 11:00pm and then I had to START on a 15 page paper. Well, with the help of coffee I ended up getting the paper done by 5:30 and was still able to sleep for a few hours! wahoo! On Saturday Kris Carr came to visit and we went to the sheldon leaders 12-hour relay. That was actually more fun than I expected it to be! I definately feel like I bonded more with all the sheldon leaders that were there, and we had a great time playing "fuck, chuck, or marry" and "would you rather.." haha...maybe I learned a little TOO much about some of these people;-) Then, after not getting much sleep again Saturday night, I had to get up wayyy too early on Sunday morning to go to the ropes course at Keuka college with ODK. That was also more fun than I expected it to be. It was definately the best group that I've ever done a ropes course with!! No fighting or tears or anything! haha... But I'm just so glad it worked out that we went 'cause that was one of my biggest goals for ODK in the beginning of the year. And I feel so good about the new officers who are taking over for me next year. They're gonna make me proud, I just know it.

Aside from the extra-curricular busyness stuff that's been going on, it kinda hit me today how much school work I still have to do before I graduate. And how little time I have to do it. I only have 4 more classes left of my entire undergraduate college career. whoa. But I made a "to do" list of all the work I have to do by the end of next week, and it's quite long. Most of it is thesis stuff that I have to finish...but I also have another big paper that I've been procrastinating on, a 5 page essay take-home final, a presentation to do tomorrow, and an actual final to take. On a happy note though - there are some good things to look foward to as well. For starters, this friday is the bridge street run!!! aww yeah:-) I got my white t-shirt already and everything! And I took a break from working to go to the shed with Willow for dinner. I realized I really hadn't been to the shed in a very long time... But I haven't lost my touch at darts 'cause I still beat Willow! phew! And I was even a good girl and didn't drink much so I could come home and do more work. Aren't you proud mom?

Oh yeah, last thursday we went to Spirits again in Syracuse. I hadn't been there in forever! It was definately fun being there with Willow...but other people still had drama going on. I don't miss the drama. And Ryan came with us too though, that was fun!

Ok, getting too tired now, and my shoulder really hurts. Chris Thuman - I love you man, but you're heavy! haha... 'night folks!

Eventful Weekend!

Well I went back to UConn again this weekend! I met up with my future roomie's Meg and Josh and we had a great time:-) I started off bonding with Meg on the ride down, and then we met Josh at the Union at UConn to find the sites of our offices for next year. We separated for a little bit to eat lunch with our bosses (read: free lunch with great people!) Then we met up again to go to the co-op to stock up on some Husky spirit and still had time to drive around Manchester and check out one of the apartment complex's a day early! For dinner we went back to Boston where Josh lives to meet his girlfriend Sarah, who was also awesome. We did tourist-y things like ate dinner at Cheers, walked around the Quincy Market area, and then had desert at The Cheesecake Factory! (satisfied Meg? haha) It was all very fun.

Then we woke up nice and early (for me at least) Saturday morning to drive back to Manchester to check out the other apartment complex we're interested in. Both apartment places were VERY nice, so I can't wait to find out where we'll be! And then we met up with a bunch of current HESA students for lunch. They were hilarious! They shared all sorts of funny stories with us and gave us some great tips and advice for next year. The more I see/talk to UConn people, the more excited I get to go there! :-)

This week has been pretty busy so far...but I've somehow managed to clean my entire house, including rearranging my entire room (I now have a BIG bed! yay!) instead of doing all the work I need to do. haha, senioritis much? I also watched most of the softball team's double header on Monday and they did a great job for the most part. (yay Willow and her homerun!) Tonight Ryan "wow-ed" everyone with a great magic show that benefited ODK, so that was fun!

Time to give up now and get some sleep...maybe I'll actually do some real work tomorrow. ha, who am i kidding...mug nite anyone? ;-)

peace out.

p.s. congrats Willow! -->

THIS is what college is all about....

Drinking and eating wings at 4pm on Friday afternoon with your co-worker and friends only to run into the faculty supervisor of the leadership honor society that you are student president of AT THE BAR. Then continuing to have a semi-professional, semi-serious conversation while actually being wasted. Then being wasted enough to confess that you're wasted to the faculty supervisor only to have her laugh at you and tell you to have fun.

Playing frisbee at the park while watching the sunset on a tuesday evening. With a professor that happened to be there. Then hanging out to talk for awhile after the sun went down. Seeing the "Northern Lights" on the lake. Calling the northern lights a party boat, canada, ghosts, and ice chunks before figuring out that they are the northern lights. Finally leaving the park to play a couple games of darts at the Shed and sharing a pitcher.

Skipping out of work early to drive an hour and a half with g-baby's mom to see the softball team play a double-header against SUNY IT. Having a great heart-to-heart chat on the drive there. Watching two incredible games where Oswego kicked butt! Socializing with the players here and there during the game...and getting winks from a special one;-) Then more great bonding with "mom" on the drive back including getting sung to.

All this just in the past week. This is what I will remember. This is what I will miss.

Yay UConn!

I just have to say again how excited I'm getting for grad school next year. Since I accepted my assistantship I joined a listserv for all the HESA students, and people have been sending e-mails like crazy introducing themselves, looking for roommates, and offerring help with finding housing, etc. These people are GREAT! We've also been exchanging screen names so I've gotten to talk to a few of the people who will be in my cohort so that's fun. I just can't wait to meet everyone again though and jump into everything involved with the program! I'm also starting to look into apartments near UConn and there seem to be a few really nice (and fairly cheap) options! wahoo!

Ok, enough about that. I'm at work right now and pretty bored so I figured I'd update this again. It's so nice outside I would much rather be there though. But no, I have another meeting at 4:00 today, and then an ODK meeting at 5:30. yuck. Why can't this semster just be over yet?? Wait...I don't really want that to happen either. So torn...

Well, sorry for the boring update, but I don't really know what else to say. The weather is good. Life is good. It's all good:-) peace out.

ok, ok, stop yelling!

Yeah yeah, I know I suck at updating this thing. Quit yer bitchin'.

Ok, so I guess the most important update since last time, is that I got into grad school!! Not only did I go interview at UVM, but I was also invited to interview at UConn (University of Connecticut) for their program as well. That was a crazy week 'cause the interviews were right after another, but they both went very well! Well enough, in fact, that I was accepted at both places! I was offerred a better assistantship at UConn though, so I accepted that deal. Which means....I'm now a Husky!! yay!! I'm going to a school that actually cares about sports! That might be fun. Anyway, the program itself seems amazing (it's for Higher Education and Student Affairs) and my assistantship is in the deptartment of student activities, student development with a track in leadership development! It will pay full tuition, plus give me a stipend of $18K for 9 months of working 20 hours a week. (which really means that they're paying me to go to grad school. rock on.) Also, it's a fairly new assistantship, which means I have a lot of freedom to plan my own leadership development programs for all levels of undergrads. Um, can we say my dream job?? That's pretty much exactly what I want to do when I grow up. Whoa...I guess that means I'm kinda grown up now huh? weird. Let's not think about that.

So now that I have that burden off my shoulders, senioritis has officially kicked in. I'm only taking 3 classes anyway, but it's been so hard to care about any of them. And luckily I finished my thesis over spring break ( least the rough draft) 'cause I don't even care about that anymore either. Ah well... I've been having fun at the bars, and i'm getting real good at playing darts:-) And the weather has been great recently, so I'm really just enjoying my last couple months in Oswego. It's definately hitting me that I'm leaving soon, and I'm actually getting pretty sad about it.

I'm going home this weekend, which I'm excited about. Emily is throwing a "dinner party" at her house on Friday. Isn't that cute? Lots of people will be there though since it's easter weekend, so I'm really excited to see everyone! And then I'm hanging out with Robin on Saturday! yay! And Willow's coming home with me, so that will be fun. The 3 of us are gonna go "clubbing" or something in Albany Saturday night so that should be funny. ha.

That's all for now, 'cause I really should be getting some work done. oops. I'll maybe try to update this again sometime before I graduate. maybe. peace out.

P.S. shout-out to my Geee Babeee;-)
